"The Journey of a thousand miles begins with one step." - Lao Tzu

Well, here we are at step one of our journey: Settle into a new life. At least, that's how I choose to see it. This step could conceivably be preceded by steps such as "obtain a visa" or "pack your suitcases". It could also be broken down into several sub-steps like "rent a house" and "buy groceries". Today I've been pretty stumped with sub-step #173, "Call the water guy". As it turns out, he doesn't speak any English. However, for the purpose of simplicity I think I'll stick with the all-encompassing first option for step one.

Before I go any further, I should introduce myself and my partners-in-crime. My name is Ryan. Four years ago this May I married my first confederate; my lovely wife Julia. Then, just over nine months ago, we completed our tenacious trio with the birth of our son, Dylan. We have had a lot of fun adventures as a family - as well as some that have been more difficult than fun - and we always seem to come out of each new experience a little wiser about the world in which we live.

So, here's to a safe and exciting journey! I'll be updating this blog periodically as we explore and enjoy the new world around us. Ni hao Beijing!!
